There are plenty of travelers who visit a country or region specifically to sample local cuisine — pasta in Italy, wine in France, or steak in Argentina.
So why not plan your next trip around one or two of the world’s healthiest foods?
Plain and simple, food tastes better when it is local.
Why eat local?
Eating local produce, fish, dairy, meat, etc. is among the freshest you can get it.
Additionally, when you eat local, you are being earth-friendly and eco-conscious.
You are supporting the local industry, often individual, nearby farms. You are also making the farm-to-table process a lot simpler.
Often those foods, especially produce, don’t have to be packaged — usually in plastic — and the foods don’t have to be trucked across the country.
It is usually always best to buy something grown or from the town or nearby towns, or at least region or state, you are in.
Check the milk cartons, the yogurt containers, the honey labels, the egg cartons.
See if you can find the closest one to where you are, and then buy it.
Same healthy foods all the time
We are creatures of habit and generally speaking, the 80/20 rule applies to many or most things in our lives.
This is the rule that suggests that we do the same things over and over again as in, we wear 20% of our clothes, 80% of the time.
While you may have a lot of friends, there are 20% of them that you visit/talk to 80% of the time.
Think of the stores you frequent.
It is the same with grocery shopping and eating in general.
If you take a few minutes to really think about it, you will come to realize that you buy the same 20% of the foods in your refrigerator, cabinets, or pantry, 80% of the time.
Much to my dismay, I know my kids eat the same foods over and over again.
Think about when you go out to eat?
Do you try new places each and every time?
Maybe while on vacation, but at home, probably not.
You generally want a “sure thing” that everyone is happy with so you go with the 20% of the restaurants you have had positive experiences with.
So every once in awhile, it is nice to try one or two different things on a food shopping trip to see if you can incorporate some new entries in your 20% list.
Maybe you will consider one of these, the world’s healthiest foods.
