Watch Sunset in London – Everyone who knows me is well aware of my fascination with London.

It’s a place I visit often, in every season and in all conditions.

Throughout the course of my visits, I’ve become something of an expert on the best places to watch a sunset in London.

This is no mean feat, as anyone who is familiar with sprawling London urban centers is aware.

Breathtaking Spots To Watch Sunset in London

All of those tall buildings have a way of blocking out spectacular sunsets, which makes indispensable a list like the one that follows.

From each of these nine vantage points, you are all-but guaranteed a spectacular view to watch Sunset in London.

The London Eye

This iconic Ferris wheel sits on the South Bank of the River Thames.

The tallest such wheel in Europe, the Eye is the perfect place to view a sunset in London.

It was originally opened in 2000, and it entertains nearly four million visitors every year.

Passengers begin their sedate but breathtaking journey when they step into one of the 32, ovoid-shaped capsules, which are air-conditioned for comfort.

Each capsule is representative of a London Borough and accommodates 25 passengers.

Rotation of the wheel takes people some 440 feet in the air, providing excellent opportunities for expansive sunset views.

Primrose Hill in Regent’s Park

Stake out a spot at the summit of the 213-foot tall hill to enjoy stunning views of central London in addition to gorgeous sunsets.

Bring along a blanket and a picnic basket.

All you really need is a bit of wine and cheese to make Primrose Hill in Regent’s Park the ultimate sunset experience.

While you’re in the neighborhood, take a few moments to peruse the English Heritage blue plaques.

You can see the former residences of literary icons like Sylvia Plath and William Butler Yeats and painter William Roberts.

Sky Garden

Billed as “London’s Highest Public Garden,” no one should miss the views to watch Sunset in London from this awe-inspiring height, especially since admission is free.

The Sky Garden building is located at 20 Fenchurch Street, and the gardens extend for three stories, offering 360-degree views.

If you want to extend your stay, make advance reservations at either Fenchurch or Darwin, two famous restaurants that also feature spectacular views.

For something lighter, retreat to one of the bars. They are the perfect places to catch a sunset with a cocktail in hand.

Chilworth London Paddington

The Chilworth London Paddington is an upscale hotel boasts not only an ideal location but also elegant accommodations.

After all, why not enjoy a sunset in London from the luxury and comfort of your own hotel room?

A boutique-style and extremely fashionable property, the hotel is a short walk from Hyde Park and Paddington Station.

Hop on London’s Tube for a quick ride to the shops on Oxford Street or Buckingham Palace.

The restaurant serves fresh, fantastic food along with views, so enjoy your dinner with a dazzling sunset.

Greenwich Park

Once a hunting park, this is now one of the city’s largest green spaces.

It was established in 1433, and it’s possible to enjoy sweeping views of the city and the River Thames.

However, there are many more reasons to enjoy a ramble here.

It’s the home of the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum.

In fact, it makes a great deal of sense to view the sunset while standing outside the Royal Observatory as it enjoys an ideal location at the top of a hill.

You may want to be prepared to share your vantage point, especially during the warmer months.

This is an immensely popular, but worthwhile, spot.

Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath

Known by locals as the “Heath,” this ancient park stretches across nearly 800 acres.

One of the highest spots in London is found here as is Parliament Hill, a location with such a remarkable view of London that it is protected by law.

It is from this point where everyone should make an effort to view a sunset.

For many visitors to the Heath, Parliament Hill is a focal point.

It’s packed with sports fields and courts in addition to an open-air swimming pool known as Gospel Oak Lido.

However, it’s the view that really commands the attention of one and all. Get there early to grab your spot on Parliament Hill.

Alexandra Palace

Familiarly referred to as the “Ally Pally,” this entertainment installation is situated in North London.

The original structure was built on the site of Tottenham Wood in 1873, but it burned to the ground a mere two weeks after opening.

It reopened in 1875 with an impressive collection of venues that include a museum, art galleries, lecture hall, concert hall, library and theater.

The offerings here today are similarly diverse. and great when traveling to London with kids.

From an ice rink to a lake for boating, it’s all here.

The steps of the palace and the surrounding parkland offer amazing views as the sun sets over London.

The Park Grand Paddington Court London is an elegantly appointed hotel is housed in a charming building that blends beautifully with the other white-stuccoed structures on the street.

Located in central London, a stay at the Park Grand Paddington Court puts guests within easy reach of many of the region’s main attractions.

Plus, the well-equipped rooms feature large windows that are perfect for capturing a London sunset.

If you prefer to enjoy the sunset with a drink in hand as I do, then head to either the club lounge or the bar.

The Shard

A 95-story skyscraper, this intensely modern building is a worthy sight all by itself.

However, better views can be had from within the tallest building in Western Europe.

Take the lift up to Level 69 where it’s possible to enjoy three levels of an indoor gallery, from every window of which you can catch a magnificent view.

On Level 72, you can experience another gallery, this one partially outdoors.

I had to have a souvenir from my recent visit, so I stopped at Level 68 to visit “The Sky Boutique,” which is listed as the highest shop in London.

Here is a list of the best rooftop activities and views in London.
