Hotel coupons aren’t quite as easy to come by as car rental coupon codes, but you can definitely snag some good deals. Hotels generally have two types of discount coupons and promotions. Discount coupons are actually coupons that you have to click through or know the code to redeem. Promotions are the deals that are available to anyone who happens upon it. But, the downside of promotions is that those who know about them first may fill up all the hotel’s space.
Here are my favorite tips for getting the best price for hotels:
1) Sign up for your preferred hotel chains frequent customer and email list.
One of my favorite hotel chains is Kimpton. (They are an exceptionally environmentally conscious hotel chain and they almost always have great restaurants with local food.) The promotional emails I receive from Kimpton contain really good promotions. If you’re a frequent customer at a chain make sure you’re on their email list.
2) Use a search aggregator
Kayak, Orbitz, Expedia, Priceline, and Travelocity all have good hotel searches. Hotels.com specializes in hotels so they are also a choice worth checking out. Test your city and dates in 3 search engines to see what kind of prices you’re getting before you settle on a hotel.
3) If you’re not too picky try to bid for hotels.
One of the best ways to use Priceline is for hotel deals. As long as you pick a higher star hotel you’ll get a good rate at a good hotel. People who are frequent Priceline customers swear by the hotel bidding feature.
