We’re Moving to Argentina!

by Kimberly on September 8, 2008

We’ve always said when we leave DC, we’ll travel for a few months before settling somewhere else. That day has finally come. We’re moving to Argentina in early October and staying there through mid-December. Then we’ll travel around Central America through January.

That’s where you come in. If you’ve been to Argentina and/or Central America, where do you think we should go? What were your favorite countries, cities, sites, and restaurants?

For Argentina, we’re torn about whether to have a home base in Buenos Aires and taking (long) side trips to see the rest of the country, or just backpacking around.

In Central America, we’ll definitely travel around Belize a bit, but we’re undecided on where else to go. Costa Rica? Guatemala? Nicaragua?

Let us know what you think!

That’s exciting! I will be traveling to Guatemala and El Salvador in early December for the first time- I will pass along any ideas after that if you are still undecided at all.

Loved cave tubing in Belize! Belize City seemed kind of scary…

@transienttravels That would be awesome. Our Central America plans are pretty much wide open at this point (definitely going to Belize, though), so let us know. Happy travels.

@Jessie V Thanks! We’re looking forward to posting from afar.

@vitalizer We did cave tubing in Belize a couple years ago and I enjoyed it, too. We stayed mostly in Hopkins, Belize, and I agree that Belize City was a little bit… interesting. In a sketchy way. We’re heading back that way and I’m hoping we can make it to Placencia. I’ve heard good things about it.

Panama! I just spent five weeks there earlier this year and it was an eye-opener. It’s often ignored in favour of its ritzier neighbour, Costa Rica… don’t miss Bocas del Toro, on the Caribbean coast, or the Kuna Yala, home of the Kuna indians, or the forests, or the beaches, or the mountains, or the wildlife…

Belize also has it all, and very friendly people. Rain forests, ruins, tubing, beaches. Ahhhhh. Thousand Foot Falls is very cool, if not imaginatively named. And the Belize Zoo is awesome. Little more than some chicken wire and strategically place electric fence between you and the cats.

If you’re serious and interested in El Salvador, please let me know and I’l try to help you out. I’m a retired Foreign Service Officer and ex-Peace Corps Director who has lived in (and loved) El Salvador for almost 30 years. Ir is the best and worst of Central America.
