If you don’t travel green, you’re sinning.
Or at least that’s my (slightly facetious) extrapolation of some recent news coming down from the Catholic Church.
Since this week is Holy Week in the Christian tradition, (and being raised in, though no longer a member of the Catholic Church piques my interest in these issues) I thought I would call your attention to a few newsworthy items.
Extremely noteworthy is the Pope’s recent discussion of “new” sins. One of the sins on that list: polluting and not caring for the environment. I think it’s great that the church is now stepping up on the green issue; there’s nothing like guilting people into changing their behavior.

Also, related to Holy Week, who is “going green” for lent? (Boston Globe article and Newsweek article ) Apparently a growing trend this year was to try to be more environmentally conscious during the Lenten Season.
“Some who are observing a green Lent say they came to the idea of reducing carbon after hearing about two Church of England bishops who urged followers this year to go on a ‘carbon fast.’
For me, the question this all begs is: what are the Popemobile’s carbon emissions?
