Walking the Monuments of Washington, D.C. at Night

I’ve always heard that, second to the Cherry Blossom Festival, the best time to visit Washington, D.C.’s monuments is at night. But in the nearly four years I’ve lived in D.C. I’ve never walked the monuments at night.

With our move to Argentina just around the corner, we finally made the walk happen. I’m still learning all the features of my fancy new camera, but check out our pictures below:

  1. The FDR memorial is my favorite by far, and I especially love it at night. It has amazing atmosphere. Great pictures!

  2. Almost makes me want to go out and see the monuments since I’m in D.C. this week. Good timing.

  3. Beautiful pictures, Elizabeth. :)

  4. @Graham - You should definitely make a point to see them! I wish I had gone sooner.
    @ Shaula - Thanks!

  5. Great photos! I definitely prefer the monuments at night. They’re more beautiful and awe-inspiring at night. I like the hush that surrounds them too.

  6. I agree, the FDR rocks at night, especially in summer when those waterfalls are so refreshing.

  7. Is it safe walking between monuments?

  8. As a woman I wouldn’t walk between Jefferson and FDR memorials alone at night, not because it’s not safe but I would just feel safer with someone. There are well lit paths, plenty of police, and a lot of tourists. Hope that helps!
