Buenos Aires Dog Walkers in Photos

by Elizabeth on October 14, 2008

Sometimes I wonder what in Buenos Aires I have missed by spending so much time looking at the ground — trying to avoid loose tiles, potholes, and lots and lots of dog shit.

I know that picking up after your dog isn’t the norm in many international cities, but I’m still astounded by the sheer amount of dog crap in Buenos Aires. Luckily there are plenty of cute dogs and puppies and seeing them makes up for having to watch my step.

In the residential neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, and specifically in the better off areas like Recoleta, people hire dog walkers to let their beloved animals out during the day. These dog walkers don’t walk 1 or 2 or even 4 little dogs, I’ve seen one dog walker that probably had about 12-15 large dogs with him.

Here are some of the photos we’ve captured:

Doesn’t look very personal. Hope the owners give them lots of attention.

I like this qulity of care for pets giving by Petsventura. They have great program STAY N’PLAY PET DAYCARE which is very different that what those walkers can give to these poor pets.

Yes, there are dogs everywhere. you cannot get into an appartment lift without being met by some kind of friendly mutt. Creatures great and small. going to bed at night you are met with a harmony of different types of dog bark.

These dogs live in appartmetns with their owners. The Porteno’s (BA inhabitant) adores their pet dog. They get treated better than humans!

Only bad thing is the poop but you learn to look out! The good thing is that you can come out of a shop or your appartment to find fifteen golden labradors all sat looking at you while the dog owner has left them on a lead for two minutes.

I must disagree. Pet owners adore their pets, this is true. But there are almost no dog friendly restaurants. Eating out with your dog in Buenos Aires is some pain in the neck. Most town squares are fenced with a “no dogs” sign at the fence entrance. Dog crap on the street is caused by owners who don’t pick it up because they care about others, but it is also due to the owners inability to walk them into town squares.
