Travelers Social Media Love-In

by Elizabeth

As part of our effort to spread the goodwill and do our part to build a sense of community among travel writers, today we’re hosting a “Social Media Love-In.” (This idea was borrowed straight from Problogger, but our focus is on travelers.)

The goal of the love-in is to find others on the web who are interested in travel. You don’t have to be a travel blogger or travel writer to participate; you just have to love to travel.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Anyone who’s interested in travel and is active on StumbleUpon, Digg, and/or Twitter can participate.
  2. In the comments below, just post the html to your profile on StumbleUpon, Digg, and/or Twitter.
  3. I’ll compile these links on Go Green Travel Green, and then we can all friend each other and build our travel network.

My plan right now is to leave this open until Thursday night at 9pm (U.S. EST ), but if it gets out of control or I start getting a lot of spammy comments, I might have to shut it down earlier.

Again, the goal is to help travel bloggers and travelers find each other on social media sites, with the intention to support each other’s content, communicate, and organize.

Here’s how you can find us (please format your comments like this too):

We’re looking forward to meeting you!

This is a great idea; thanks for organizing it. :) My profile links are below, though I actually don’t use Digg all that much. My impression of it was that it wasn’t really good for travel stuff – more for tech/funny stuff. Is it getting better for travel stuff? Or is there another more travel-heavy site like Digg out there? I’m also throwing Delicious in here, too, as I use that pretty frequently.

It can be hard to connect with passionate travellers on social media, so this will be very handy indeed. Thank you for getting the ball rolling!

I unfortunately don’t get to use it that much these days because of work regulations. But less than a month now until I’m free of work, and then I hope to Stumble a lot more of the awesome stuff I read!

I thought that if we stumble each others posts it could bring us extra traffic.

I agree. We should work together on stumble each others posts that we like. (probably not every single posts, but the really good ones)

I’ve heard through the grapevine that stumbleupon is starting to detect when the same people stumble your stories over & over, but I’m not sure of the details.

Debbie, I’ve noticed that if I try to submit my own post too often they just aren’t stumbled but I imagine if we stumble each others posts when we read a post we like that is quite legitimate, it’s not like it will be every day.
