It’s back to school today for millions of American students. While it’s always best to reuse old school supplies, I’ve never been able to resist the urge of buying a new pack of pens or a notebook for back-to-school. My mom sent me a link to these nifty PaperMate Pens. They’re biodegradable!

I thought I’d share them in honor of the back-to-school spirit.
The PaperMate brand also sells biodegradable mechanical pencils.
Of course, this isn’t going to solve our nation’s problem with excessive waste. But it doesn’t hurt to see companies going the extra mile make more environmentally friendly products. So thank you, PaperMate, for the effort.
In order to properly compost the biodegradable pens and biodegradable mechanical pencils you need to take the pens and pencils apart and compost only the shell. Of course, as long as you’re taking it apart, perhaps you could just insert a refill for the pen or pencil?
